The weather was so bad that I don't think we saw the best of the town.
However the front is very clean and there are a few shops in the town centre plus a cinema and a concert hall.
It is a good place to use as a base to visit other places and the bus service is very good if you don't have a car.

I was disappointed there wasn’t a tourist information office but the library staff were very helpful as was the guest house owner.
I enjoyed visiting the landmarks and just walking along the coast. The Jam Jar cinema was also worth a visit.

Whitley Bay is an up and coming town with some lovely shops.
Whitley Bay is an up and coming town with some lovely shops. It also has easy access to Newcastle and the surrounding area by road and by Metro. In the summer Whitley Bay is busy but in the winter it is much quieter.
I have visited this town many times while visiting my daughter. On this occasion my visit was not a holiday; I was helping my daughter to move house.
We knew when we booked this it was a budget room/hotel. Paul is extremely welcoming and a very nice guy. Our room was clean and a nice size, it was a shame the wifi wasn't working but it wasn't the end of the world. I would say that the bed was not that comfy, very hard but again we paid £40 a night. The hotel is well placed though to walk to the lovely coffee shops in Whitley Bay and get onto the metro to go into Newcastle. Parking is on the street, we were able to get a space but it does get busy.
Stayed 2 nights to enable me to run the Great North Run. Comfortable room in wonderful farm house set in pleasant rural location with super friendly and helpful staff (John & Trish). 3 friendly and well behaved dogs made it feel homely along with the horses and donkey. Plenty of parking space and access to the metro which will take you to the centre of Newcastle and also on a pleasant journey along the coast which is well worth exploring. Very enjoyable stay Thanks David from Bristol.
The house is gorgeous and feels like a home from home with everything provided that you could possibly need. The house is beautifully decorated and styled and makes you feel like you are living in luxury. The communication with the owners was excellent and their restaurant and activity tips were great. The location is perfect for the beach and for the town centre - lots of lovely independent shops including a fabulous bookshop called The Bound. 5 stars, 100% recommend!
The hotel was better than expected, could see the sea from the front doorstep! Staff were really friendly and welcoming, the room was huge and it had separate bath and shower. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of tea and coffee.
We ate breakfast there one morning, we booked this when we arrived and had a rick sheet to pre-order, there were lots of choice from cereal to cooked breakfast and it was really nice.
The single room I stayed in for 2 nights was small but clean, smartly decorated and had everything I needed, including an onsuite shower room, flat screen tv, hanging rail and comfy bed. Extremely reasonably priced and the hosts were lovely. Location was fantastic, 5 minutes walk from the Spanish City, 10 minutes walk to Cullercoats Bay and less than 5 minutes walk to Whitley Bay town centre and the metro station.
The breakfast was excellent. There was plenty of choice and the hot buffet was nicely presented.
The room was very comfortable.
It was clean and very presentable.
The location of the hotel was also very convenient.
The reception staff were very pleasant plus the housekeeping lady who helped us with the shower.
Love the coast, Whitley Bay and tynemouth being 1 of our favourite areas. Wasn't sure what to expect from the reviews but caravan was OK, bed was comfortable.. Overall we have used caravans on sites for yrs and will continue to do so hopefully this 1 will have a little update and we will be happy to come bk.
The reception and hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. My room was large, bright and very clean. The bathroom was particularly clean. The hotel is well positioned for accessing the shore, Cullercoats, Tynemouth and Whitley Bay.
The guesthouse is ideally located on the sea front the room we were in was excellent the shower room was very good.
The breakfast was excellent and made fresh a full English.
Definitely a 5 star stay and will be going back soon
The Metropolitan offers a great variety for breakfast, nice advice for restaurants and activities in Whitley Bay.
The room was lovely decorated and clean. I'm looking forward to come back =
It was well equipped property, with lots of mod cons, located in a quiet neighbourhood with easy access to Whitley Bay and Cullercoats and only a short drive from Tynemouth.
